Horikawa River Food Stands 堀川側屋台
Being a "morning guy" I don't get out in the evenings much, especially when I'm working, but as I have a few more days of vacation, I decided to head downtown last Friday evening to do some evening/night shooting. After getting some photos of the tall buildings near Nagoya Station, I walked back towards Fushimi to catch the subway home, and noticed lights and food stands, and many people gathered along the Horikawa River. I have no idea whether this is a regular occurrence, or a summer thing, but it was very nice. I had a glass of craft beer from Kinshachi (金鯱) brewing company, and ate a sausage on a stick, while walking through the food stalls along the river. There were people playing music, laughing, talking... Just a really nice scene, and it made me think I should try to get out at night more often. When taking photos at night with artificial light, getting a natural white balance can be really tricky. There were odd color casts, both orange and green, and I just couldn't get the color to my liking, so decided to go black and white. While you lose the "warm pools of light" feeling in the photo, the black and white lends a timeless atmosphere which has a charm of its own.
